To materialize the set objectives FL has undertaken different programs. They are as follows:
- Disables Empowerment Program (DEP)
With the goal of transforming the lives of persons with disabilities through vocational / life skill training, the DEP was introduced by the FL together with its international partner, The Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission (FELM/ Nepal). The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has supported the DEP since 2009.
The DEP program supports activities focusing on capacity building, awareness raising & advocacy initiatives and income generating opportunities for promotion of rights of person with disabilities in eight working districts in Nepal.
In addition, the project carries research and new initiatives on different disability works providing necessary infrastructure support for persons with disabilities. The Fl provides On The Job Training (OJT) & Internship opportunities. Under these programs, the participants get to practice their skills and enrich their working experiences that enable them to pursue a carrier in the trained areas. Also, the FL has started fast growing timber and fodder Paulownia cultivation among families of person with disabilities. The Paulownia cultivation is expected to generate better income and support the environment.
- Scholarship Program (SCH)
With the goal of transforming lives of pupils with disabilities through formal educational support for dignified life, the scholarship program was introduced by the FL together with its international partner, The Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission (FELM/ Nepal), in 2006.
Scholarship distribution is usually conducted in project districts. However, children with disabilities from across the country are granted scholarship to pursue studies in the capital. Annually, about 400 pupils with disabilities get scholarship grant from the FL.
The FL support the pupils with disabilities with educational material support in their respective schools. Such materials are Braille paper, speaker, pen drives, books and other study materials. Also, FL has felt the need to develop educational materials for pupils with disability in Nepal. Currently, the FL is trying to develop necessary educational materials. Moreover, the FL provides other material support like school uniform, bed and utensils on a regular basis.
To support the learning of pupils with disabilities, the FL has been supporting its partner schools (special and resource schools) with the teachers training. Such trainings provide teachers with pedagogical knowledge and expertise.
Moreover, FL has an Outreach Scholarship program. Around 35 needy pupils are getting scholarship yearly.
