‘I am eternally thankful’

Dadiram-UpadhyaI am Dadhiram Upadhyaya. I am the eldest son of my parents Damodar and Dhani. I was born blind in 1995.

Following support of the Forward Looking under its scholarship programme, I completed the Higher Secondary (HS) and also the Bachelor’s degree. Upon completion the Bachelor’s, I managed to become a teacher in the primary level at Odhari Higher Secondary School in Kapilbastu District of west Nepal.

As my brother is also blind, my family faced very tough situation to have two blind children in the family.

Life was hard as my family survived only six months with production in our field. In-stead of working hard in the field, the mother was busy with care of the blind children at home.

My father was the breadwinner of the family. The limited resources in the village forced him to sell all our property and migrate to Rupandehi District. Migrating to the more fertile area helped us financially. I also started my schooling there.

I completed his S.L.C (Nepali level equivalent to GCSE) from a government school. After completing SLC, I had a dream to continue my further study. But it was not financially possible. Luckily, I came to know about Scholarship program of Forward Looking from my friends. Upon hearing about the FL and its scholarship program, I went directly to the FL, filled in the forms and submitted the scholarship application. After few days I got a call confirming scholarship from the Forward Looking, which changed the course of my life.

With the FL support I first finished the HS (+2) levels from Janasewa higher secondary school, Kritipur Kathmandu and then continued Bachelor’s level in Butwal Multiple College, Rupendehi. During my bachelor’s education, I also prepared for the Teacher Service Commission exam and succeeded in it. Now I have decent job and a respectful life. I am eternally thankful.’
